CoroCoro Checker® is a robot designed to inspect the exterior of stay cables on cable-stayed bridges by traveling along the cables and capturing 360° images. ARRK was responsible for the redesign of the existing machine, aiming to maintain inspection performance while resolving issues and achieving a feasible development cost.
Development Process
The inspection of stay cables with CoroCoro Checker® offers significant advantages, such as no need for on-site traffic restrictions and ensuring the safety of inspection personnel. However, due to the large number of cables to inspect, the primary challenge was how to complete inspections quickly at the site.
The customer and ARRK collaborated to identify the issues with the existing machine and select improvement areas for the development
Reverse engineering involves analyzing the structure of a product, including its manufacturing methods, operating principles, and design drawings, by disassembling the actual product or observing its operation. In this case, the existing machine was disassembled, analyzed, and the data was used as the basis for development.
ARRK made proposals for improving reliability, such as preventing damage to the braking mechanism and encoder mechanism, and redesigning the board for better reliability and wiring. Mechanical and electrical designers collaborated to improve replaceability for consumable parts. ARRK specializes in improvement design, which involves making existing products even better.

Our support doesn’t end with the manufacturing. We conducted tests for lifting performance, camera performance, wireless communication, and temperature evaluations for outdoor inspections. We also revised the user manual and ensured compatibility with the app due to design changes before delivery.
